Director's Message
Being the Founding Director of an organization is a rare privilege that brings special excitement to the job. I am grateful to the members of the Board of Directors for their confidence in my abilities to lead this Foundation. Their excitement and belief in the Foundation and desire to see it flourish are important reasons why I became the Executive Director.
When they established the Nemours Wildlife Foundation, Eugene duPont, III and his family made an invaluable contribution to wildlife conservation that will return dividends for generations. Eugene, his wife Laura, daughter Gigi, and son-in-law Mike McShane have been active conservationists and have established a legacy the Foundation will build upon. We owe these individuals a great deal of thanks for their foresight, wisdom, and courage.
Our vision for the Foundation is to continue the legacy of Eugene duPont, III and his family through excellence in land stewardship, education, and science. We particularly want to be a source of knowledge for the many private landowners in our region who have very strong land ethics and are trying to be the best natural resource stewards possible
I have come to appreciate the tremendous activity occurring within the state and region related to wildlife conservation. I have been especially pleased to see organizations working together to achieve mutual goals. I am a huge believer in partnerships, and given the complex conservation problems we face, believe that we must work together to be successful.
It is obvious to me the Foundation has a key niche to fill in the mix of conservation groups in the Southeast. Our status as a private, nonprofit organization as well as the expertise we have on staff make us important and unique.
Since my arrival, we have initiated a number of activities. I feel very good about our start, and I look forward to the challenges ahead. I am always interested in learning how we can make this Foundation even better; so if you have any thoughts on this, don't hesitate to contact me. Ernie P. Wiggers.
